If you had asked me in high school if I would be spending most of my time in church after I graduated, I would have said no way. Times have definitely changed, for the absolute best. Now I am spending 3-4 days a week at my church and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.
It all started when I met my boyfriend during my senior year of high school. He had been a proclaimed Christian for many years and I on the other hand had not. Before I had met him I had only been to church a few times for holidays and I was baptized as a baby but that was about it for religion in my growing up. So, when I met my boyfriend and started going to church with him it was my first real experience with church.
In the summer of 2016, my boyfriend and I spent a lot time at Word of Life Island (a Christian youth camp) visiting his mom and sisters. It was the most positive environment I had ever been in in my life. Everyone was happy and smiling at everyone else. Why? Because they had Jesus in their hearts. It made me never want to leave because I didn’t know places like that could exist. I loved how I felt being there. I finally realized that this is what true happiness felt like; being surrounded by God’s Word and other Christians. You could feel God’s love and love for God everywhere you went.
On June 29, 2016 I accepted Jesus into my heart as my Lord and Savior while I sat by the lake with a girl I met at WOL. Immediately I felt my life and heart change. I am no longer living for the world, now I’m living for God and His glory. I spent all of my years in high school chasing what I thought happiness was and now I have true happiness right in front of me. Accepting Jesus into my heart is the only way for me to be truly happy. I now know what happiness, faith, hope, and love really are.
Loving God is the easiest thing I’ve ever had to do and I am still growing in my faith. Christianity is a continuous learning process. Our relationships with God are always growing and strengthening. But, that is the great part. We are always learning new things about God’s love for us.
So, if you are thinking of going to church or reading the Bible… DO IT! It is the best thing you will ever do in your life. God loves you and wants you to open your heart to Him.
